Employment Opportunities

The Division of Codes & Standards conducts a continuing recruitment effort of qualified individuals to perform construction inspections and construction plan review.  Currently, the Division has multiple job opportunities for licensed officials in New Jersey.  There are full and part time positions available. Apprentice Inspector Multiple Dwelling

Starting salary for new employees:  $47,179.11

Required license:  Inspector of Hotels and Multiple Dwellings Trainee

Entry level position in the Bureau of Housing Inspection this position receives on the job training and performs basic field work involved in enforcing the New Jersey Hotel and Multiple Dwelling Laws and Regulations.  After successful completion of the training period and obtaining an Inspector of Hotel and Multiple Dwelling license you will be promoted to the title of Inspector 1, Multiple Dwelling

 

Construction Code Inspector 1

Starting salary for new employees (based on experience):  $64,544.97-$73,549.17

Required license:  Building RCS

This position is in the Bureau of Homeowner Protection, New Home Warranty Unit.  Employees will be required to inspect defects in new homes that are under warranty and determine if defects are covered under the State Warranty Plan.  This position is required to report to the main building in Trenton each day, except when in the field conducting inspections.  

 

Inspector 1 Multiple Dwelling

Full time starting salary for new employees (based on experience):  $53,903.02-$61,304.59

Part time, hourly rate:  $40.40

Required license:  Inspector of Hotels and Multiple Dwellings

This position is a field position performing inspections of hotels and multiple dwellings in accordance with the New Jersey Hotel and Multiple Dwelling Laws and Regulations.  The Division is seeking full and part time inspectors to work in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Passaic and Union counties.

 

Subcode Official

Positions in Bureau of Construction Project Review and Bureau of State and Local Code Inspections

Full time starting salary for new employees:  $72,014.33-$82,129.92

Part time, hourly rate:  $47.55

Required license:  HHS in building, electrical, elevator, fire or plumbing AND subcode official.

 

Bureau of Construction Project Review -- This subcode official position requires person to report to the main building in Trenton to perform plan review of plans for specific types of buildings within New Jersey. Some examples of projects reviewed are American Dream, State buildings, health care facilities, schools and casinos.

 

Southern Regional Office -- This position is a field position based out of Hammonton.  This position in the Southern Regional Officer receives and provides guidance on Construction Permit applications, review of construction plans, issuance of Construction Permits, performs inspections, and issues Certificates and Orders.  The towns covered by Southern Regional Office include:  Allenhurst, Bordentown, Buena Vista, Chesilhurts, Corbin City, Downe, Englishtown, Estell Manor, Folsom, HI Nella, Hopewell, Jamesburg, Mannington, Millstone, Penns Grove, Rocky Hill, Roosevelt, Salem, Shrewsbury, Washington, Weymouth, and Woodbine.

Northern Regional Office -- This position is a field position based out of Asbury. This position in the Northern Regional Office receives and provides guidance on Construction Permit applications, review of construction plans, issuance of Construction Permits, performs inspections, and issues Certificates and Orders. The towns covered by Northern Regional Office include:  Allamuchy, Andover, Bethlehem, Blairstown, Bloomsbury, Franklin, Fredon, Glen Gardner, Hampton, Hardwick, Harmony, Holland, Hope, Knowlton , Lafayette, Lebanon, Liberty, Milford, Ogdensburg, Oxford, Pohatcong, Union, Washington.

State Buildings Unit -- This position is a field position responsible for performing UCC inspections and enforcement of construction projects managed by the unit.  Projects include, but are not limited to, State buildings, NJ Transit, public schools, colleges, prisons and American Dream Mall.     

 

Elevator Safety Unit -- This position is a field position conducting cyclical and acceptance inspections of elevator devices.
